Delivering Your Baby At The Right Location
Posted by Pat Allen at Aug 4th, 2010 in Pregnancy
Find a desired location and then the people who will assist you in the birth. Having a baby in the hospital is the primary choice for many women when they deliver their babies. There are two other options that may be a better fit for your situation. You may want to have your baby in what is referred to as a freestanding birthing center or you may decide to have your baby in the comfort of your own home. The physician plays a role in where the baby will be born depending on the difficulties, if any, present in your pregnancy.
What are the benefits of giving birth in a birthing room?
Hospital birthing rooms are most preferred for deliveries. This is however, a very sterile and dispassionate environment. This may not be comfortable for some women but for others the medical feeling is a form of comfort. Birthing rooms are designed with more comfort than the average hospital room. It is decorated like a home bedroom and is provided with an excellent support staff.
Using a family doctor or a medical specialist opens the opportunity for the mother to choose her hospital. Midwives associated with certain hospitals can allow their clients to give birth in a hospital location. Giving birth in hospitals reduces worry and stress cause by women worrying about emergency situations. Become familiar with a hospital and its practices prior to delivering.
What are Procedures in a Freestanding Birth Center?
Freestanding birthing centers promote relaxation. These are not located inside of a hospital so if this is your choice for the location to give birth you will need to be sure you know that preparations have been made should an emergency situation arise during the birthing process.
Not many obstetricians practice in a freestanding birthing center, but there are midwives on staff to assist in the birth. Women are free to customize their delivery process at freestanding birthing centers. Low-risk pregnancies can benefit from opportunities provided at freestanding birthing centers. Tour the birthing center and consult with staff to determine if this option is right for you.
Why not give birth at home?
Women have been having babies in their own homes for many, many years. Low-risk pregnancies can take place at home. Have a plan “B” to delivering at home and have a plan of attack for delivering the baby before your due date approaches. Midwives are used at home for the delivery of a child.
