Explaining And Removing Age Spots.

Age spots are something that bedevil many women, and men, as they get older. They are mostly harmless, but are unsightly, so for many women finding out how to remove age spots is important.
Age spots can also be known as liver spots or sun spots or, technically, lentigines. They are visible on the surface of the skin because they are discolored, being a brownish or blackish color, or possibly red. They are called liver spots sometimes because it was suspected that they were related to problems with the liver.
This is now discredited though.
You shouldn’t confuse age spots with melanoma, or skin cancer, though they can look similar. Age spots are harmless but melanoma certainly isn’t, and if you have dark colored spots on your face or any other part of your body you ought to have them looked at by a doctor.
So what causes age spots? There’s 2 simple reasons, sun damage and age. The sun damages our skin and combined with advancing age the combination of these 2 factors means that for some we get spots on our face and neck and the backs of our hands, because those areas get most of the sun.
Our skin pigments collect between the dermis and the epidermis and this collection of pigment is the sun spot. As we age our skin is less able to regenerate and repair the skin cells.
So should we remove these sun spots? There’s a number of options, and one is to do nothing as long as a doctor has checked them out. From a health point of view it isn’t essential to remove age spots. They can stay if you wish.
You may want to remove them because they look unsightly though. For many women, and sometimes men, developing liver spots is concerning because they are so visible, particularly on the face. So how do you go about removing age spots?
Theres a number of ways to remove age spots. Some laser therapies may remove age spots, though this may be expensive and is not necessary. They can also be removed with cryotherapy, or the use of extreme cold through sources like dry ice. This is a medical procedure and you should consult your doctor about this, as you should if you are considering laser treatment as well.
There is one other option. There are natural skin care products that are showing good results in removing age spots. If you are aging you ought to be using high quality skin care products anyway, and the best are now demonstrating an ability to reduce the appearance of facial spots as well. This is of course a slower process than a medical procedure.
The reason is the effects of vitamin E. Vitamin E has many anti oxidant and other properties that make it very beneficial to the skin. Of course you’d be aware that many skin care products already contain vitamin E, but usually a synthetic version that is not particularly effective, and usually in very low concentrations.
In most product it is mainly there so that the words vitamin E can be included on the label to sell the product.
The very best natural skin care products in the world use a natural form of vitamin E that is way more effective and is added at a much higher concentration.
So there’s the lowdown on age spots. Or liver or sun spots if you prefer. And there’s no need to remove them if you don’t want to, as long as you’ve checked them out with your doctor first. But if you do want to remove them remember there are excellent results being achieved with top quality natural skincare products. It sure beats laser therapy.
