Learn About Market Regulation Of Colloidal Foods And Colloidal Silver
Posted by Mary Bell at Feb 20th, 2010 in Nutrition
Vitamin and mineral dietary supplements should be banned, according to some international health officials. When scientists determine product nutrition does not allow the product to be recognized as vitamin or mineral then health officials should prevent the buying and selling of that product. Colloidal silver is an example of a product in the dietary supplement category.
Market Regulation - Banned From The Feast!
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) oversee the analysis of product nutrition data for members of the World Trade Organization (WTO). They want to ensure scientifically those food products and vitamin and mineral supplements are fit to be consumed by humans.
The Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) determines which food products to ban, some sources conclude. The CCNFSDU, for instance, is alleged to have banned the selling of colloidal silver in England starting January of this new year. The CCNFSDU, it appears, has the job of scrutinizing all food supplements worldwide and placing supplements on the banned list or removing them.
Some bans from CODEX officials against food supplements are based on properties inherent in the product. For example, the tiny particle size of a colloid dietary supplement theoretically means a lower dosage which helps limit risk of toxic effect.
Colloidal Foods? Who Knew?
Making a colloidal food is easy. Food and food supplements can be colloidal. Milk is a colloid people like to drink. And since colloidal particles are so small, colloids look like one substance but are two. It takes two substances to make a colloid. Egg whites plus chocolate milk whipped make a colloid. Toothpaste is a colloid.
Would colloids in food products ever be banned under international law? Or would only colloids in food supplements be banned? How would people feel about their favorite foods were banned by CODEX officials? Butter and salad dressing are colloids. Food colloids are nature’s way of saying ‘I also can create nanotechnology!’
Some CODEX officials want to regulate food supplements as drugs. Some countries reportedly already regulate vitamins and minerals as drugs. Germany and Australia are reported to be such nations. Colloidal food products, because of their nanotechnology physical properties are of interest to people who think of food as drugs. How will CODEX officials regulate colloidal food products as drugs? Can mayonnaise become a drug? Mayonnaise is a colloid. Will you need a doctor’s prescription to buy and sell mayonnaise?
International Regulation Becomes Local Rule
Future food decisions will still be made locally, but will shrink in number. The FAO and the WHO will get involved more often at the local level. Member states are still waiting for the CODEX Commission to adopt final guidelines on vitamins and minerals. Afterward, more local food decisions will get decided internationally.
