Sleep Better Tonight By Meditating

by Keira Adams

If you’re having trouble sleeping at night, you might want to consider taking up meditation. Practicing meditation can help you get a sounder and more refreshing sleep so that you’ll have more energy and ability to concentrate in the morning. It also has benefits for people who have sleep difficulties because it relaxes the muscles and soothes the mind so that they fall asleep more easily.

A lot of people, for a variety of reasons, may try taking numerous different pills. However, you should know that with sleeping pills, you run the risk of interrupted sleep and daytime drowsiness. If you decide to use meditation instead of medication, it takes practice to learn the techniques that work for your body in particular, so be patient.

There are several methods for easy meditation - listening to music or in silence, burning candles, sitting calmly and allowing your mind to drift, or by the more concentrated practice of yoga meditation. Meditation relieves tension and eases anxiety, which will lead to a more restful and refreshing sleep.

There are things that you can do to help you focus on your meditation, like repeating a positive phrase to yourself, either in your mind or aloud. This positive phrase is known as a mantra. Or you can use a relaxing CD or deep breathing to focus. Focus on getting rid of the negative thoughts and having more positive thoughts to prevent disruption of your meditation.

When you have a peaceful place with no distractions you will be able to easily meditate. Use the following tips to help you concentrate.

1. Meditation can be done anywhere as long as it a quiet place, free of distractions. There should not be anything to distract you such as television, phones and other annoyances.

2. Get comfy. Find a comfortable place to sit, on top of a cushion or pillow if you like. Your clothing should be lightweight and loose. Remove your shoes and anything else that restricts you.

3. Get relaxed. Just close you eyes and let your mind begin to wander. If you want you can picture peaceful scenes in your mind to assist in your meditation.

4. Concentrate on your breathing. Inhale deeply and focus on each breath as the air enters and exits your lungs. Practicing this kind of deep breathing will help to reduce your stress and enhance the levels of oxygen in your system.

If you make it a habit to meditate for 10 to 15 minutes every day, just before you go to bed at night, in time your sleep will become more restful and restorative.

From the page: “Chakra analysis to help determine what center needs some work, and then yoga exercises and meditation techniques to help heal and balance that center. “

“During the eight-week trial, groups of between eight and fifteen people met with one therapist. They learned a range of meditation exercises that they could continue to practice on their own once the course ended. Many of the exercises were based on Buddhist meditation techniques and helped the individual take time to focus on the present, rather than dwelling on past events, or planning for future tasks”

They placed a much higher value on the good standing of their organization - and by extension upon themselves, of course - than they did on the lives of uncounted girls and boys who have been, and who assuredly still are being, abused by the very men to whom they turn for guidance, example and comfort.

This is what absolutely kills me about those whiny missives from Donohue about the mean old law-enforcement people focusing on abuses and rape by Catholic priests and teachers and, he implies, completely ignoring the abuses by non-Catholics (yeah, right.) He seems more concerned about the reputation of the Church than the horrors–PTSD, depression, sleep disorders, emotional problems, and life-long torment–suffered by those whom Catholic priests abused and raped while the elders/leaders either turned their heads or engaged in cover-ups and diocese transfers and payoffs. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him take a powerful stand against the serious crimes so many priests have committed against children–no, he just rails and rails against the Evil Media and the imagined Evil Anti-religion Faction of America, who are clearly to blame for the massive number of pedophile priest cases. *sigh*

Didn’t you feel more stimulated or something on the very first day that you took it, possibly like somebody is prodding you? Maybe do a search for Cognitive Behavior Therapy and familiarize yourself with some of the thinking errors that depressed people make. Also, meditation is a good way to improve your mood.
