Some basic Mesothelioma information

Exposure to asbestos has been proven to be the main cause for Mesothelioma. The name comes from the word “Mesothelium”, which is a very thin lining that surrounds most of our organs, and this is the site where the disease starts to form.
Not only the person who works (or had worked) with asbestos is at a higher risk of getting the cancer, but also his family members. By cutting the material, tiny dust and fiber particles are set free in the air which will be breathed in by everybody in the immediate area and likely brought back home to the family, since the clothes and shoes have been contaminated, too.
Smoking is directly linked to a significantly higher risk in developing an asbestos induced cancer. And even though there is no scientific proof of an association between smoking and Mesothelioma, it is strongly advised not to smoke cigarettes for a whole host of obvious reasons.
On my website I already talked about the insane amounts of money that is involved in Mesothelioma lawsuits. The link to my website is in the author’s box at the end of this article.
Let’s have a look at the symptoms of Mesothelioma. It is tricky, to say the least, since this form of cancer - and the same is true for a lot of other cancer, too - might have been initiated years or decades back ago.
I know first hand about receiving a cancer diagnosis and learning that I had cancer for a long while. I was diagnosed with RCC, the cancer of the kidney, in early October of 2009. After my left kidney was taken out and the pathology completed, the doctors explained to me, I was probably developing the disease way back ago.
Given the size of the tumor and its characteristics, the doctors assume that it probably started to form 20 years ago, which would take me back prior to my 20th birthday. You see, some cancers are not easy to diagnose, because it can take many years until the first signs start to surface.
And for Mesothelioma it’s exactly the same story. Common symptoms of this disease include, but are not limited to, rapid change in someone’s weight, pain in the chest and being short on breath. Typically, a CT scan will be ordered for a patient who is suspected to have gotten the cancer. But in order to confirm a diagnosis, a biopsy is necessary.
In recent years the Pharmaceutical industry was able to make several chemotherapy drugs available in order to treat Mesothelioma, which are supposed to provide the patient with a better quality of life. However, unfortunately a diagnosis of this type of cancer typically carries a rather poor prognosis.
The earlier the cancer is being detected, the better are the chances to treat it effectively.
The author Leslie West was diagnosed with kidney cancer, only 7 months after his wife got diagnosed with breast cancer. On his website he talks about the the link between Mesothelioma and Asbestos and provides independent asbestos information, since this material is in direct correlation with various forms of other cancers, too.
