The Easy Way to Choose a Lasik Surgeon

by Kevin McClury

As the popularity of Lasik continues to rise, it has become that much harder to choose the right Lasik eye surgeon. This is because the medical community has made Lasik seem so safe (even though there are always potential complications, just like with any other surgery). Because of the complacency that has been created, this article seeks to emphasize the importance of choosing the right surgeon and how to properly do it.

In order to ensure you get the best possible doctor that you can afford, you should meet with four eye surgeons. This is imperative since there will be a huge difference between their experience and skill levels. To find 4 Lasik eye surgeons, you should ask your family and co-workers if they can recommend someone. If that fails, you can perform an Internet search to locate potential surgeons.

Before you actually contact the surgeons office, you are going to want to validate his or her medical credentials. This will be much easier than you think. You simply contact your states Board of Medical examiners and they will be able to validate the surgeon’s credentials.

Once you have validated the surgeons credentials, you will schedule a visit with his or her office. This is visit is called a consultation. Your objective for the consultation is to leave feeling comfortable with the Lasik eye doctor.

At this point, many people ask What do you do at the consultation? This is where you find out if you are a good Lasik candidate. You may be shocked to find the Lasik surgeon may tell you that Lasik is not right for you at all. There may be another, better eye surgery to correct your vision problem.

Additionally, you are trying to get a feel for the doctor. You want to ensure he places your interests above his own. As an example, does he seem more concerned with generating a profit than with your actual health?

After your consultation with the surgeons, you will need to decide which surgeon you felt the most comfortable with. This is key. If you are uncomfortable with a surgeon, simply choose another one.

Lastly, please do not base your decision of which surgeon to go with based on his or her fee structure. This is the absolutely worst thing that you can do. In the world of Lasik eye surgery, you truly do get what you pay for.
