Why Eat Fish? Fish Meal For Healthy Eating-Healthy Living Part 5

Almost all heart researchers agree that when people who have defective fat metabolism eat a high-fat diet, heart disease often results. In addition to prolonging your life by controlling your weight, correct diet can save you from heart and blood vessel disease.
The low-fat diet will add immeasurably to your general health and well-being. Fish is natural low-fat and is a good quality protein, filled with vitamins like riboflavin, which aids the body in the metabolism of amino acids, fatty acids, and carbohydrates and Vitamin D, which aids calcium absorption to help prevent osteoporosis.
It is not necessary attempting to drain off fish fats in cooking. Unlike meats, very little fats will be cooked out of the fish
Some fish such as perch, haddock, flounder, sturgeon, smelts, scallops are especially low in fat. Others like brook trout, porgy, cod, and croakers are somewhat higher in fat content, but are still quite low in fat content when compared with meats.
Shell-fish are outstandingly low in fat and cholesterol content. Lobster, shrimps, and crabs are ideal examples. Clams are next in line; oysters are a bit higher in fat content, but are still low in comparison with beef, lamb, or veal.
For the connoisseurs, frogs-legs are also low in fat content. Tuna is now packed in dietetic form called “Chicken-of-the-Sea Brand” and is particularly low in fat. Many canned fish when not packed in oil are very low in fat.
The Food Standards Agency recommends that we should all consume at least two portions of fish a week for health, as they are proven to offer multiple nutritional benefits - they are high in protein, low in saturated fat and they contain many other nutrients that are important for proper growth and development.
Fish that are safe for children to eat up to 3 times a week include smaller species such as: Atlantic and Tasmanian salmon barramundi blue-eye cod also known as blue-eye trevalla bream flathead jewfish hake hoki mackerel mullet ocean and rainbow trout redfish sardines snapper, and whiting.
Fish is so easy to cook, just remember: keep it fresh and keep it quick. It can be cooked under the grill, it just needs to be attended very closely and only takes a few minutes per side. You can also cook fish in the oven which allows the fish to be infused with the flavours of other ingredients.
Fish is so delicate that it dries out quickly and is easy to overcook. It is done when the colour turns from translucent to opaque (white) or has reached 140 degrees F to 145 degrees F internal temperature.
By adding fish to your diet 1-2 times a week not only reduces your risk of coronary heart disease and will help you manage your weight, but what does a healthy diet consist of.

I am a PA-C and I practice medicine…… and I am open to adding alternative medicine…..as are the physicians I work with. The problem with education in alternative medicine is it is not regulated in ways as the study of medicine is. Therefore……you can get quackery. In some states naturopathic physicians are legal, and they attend medical school in this particular way….for as long as other physicians do. The learn-by-mail-at-home schools (like Clayton's) is expensive and not accredited by any governing body of worth and I am suspect of the curriculum. The better schools have to be attended in person. Andrew Weil (a great doctor in alternative medicine) has a school and program….expensive….the classes need to be in person….but authentic in content. (His books are a good start)Take a college level class in biology, or nutrition, or anatomy and physiology for a good basis of knowledge. Some community colleges actually have classes in herbs (our local college does). Massage Therapy is legit. and gives a good basis of knowledge. Medicine….alternative or otherwise….is never taught these days legitimately in apprentice fashion. There are some pretty good alternative health magazines…..just do a search. But I recommend a good basis of knowledge of the sciences that are taught on a college level….it gives you more of a knowledge to sort through what is real and what is quackery.

Chris, no, believing a single way of thought is only viable until your culture gets conquered. It’s just a sign that our dominant culture hasn’t been conquered yet.
I like the idea of a wiki but I’m not sure how easily it could share attention with this room. Zoho is a very easy way to start a hosted wiki and its acceptance of Gmail and Yahoo logins means no one will have to create a new account. I don’t know what you’d do if the wiki ever outgrew Zoho though, you might need to export it in the end.
